Lethal and sub-lethal impacts of lead on some hematological, biochemical and immunological indices in Caspian roach (Rutilus rutilus)
Authors
Abstract:
The present study has been conducted on Caspian Roach (Rutilus rutilus) so that the impact of different concentrations lead on blood hematological, biochemical, and immunological indicators could be investigated. The roach (Rutilus rutilus), used in this study, was 3.3±0.3 g heavy and 4±0.80 cm long in average. The fish were exposed to a low concentration of 10% LC50 and high concentration of 50% LC50 lead for a period of 0, 24, 48, and 96 h. The experiment was done in a static toxicity condition, within tanks of 400L, each including 14 fish. In the 96-hour period (10% LC50 Lead), the parameters of WBC and RBC dropped significantly in comparison to the control group (0 h) (P

full textDetection of lethal concentration (LC50) of diazinon in Silver Carp (Hypophthalmicthys molitrix) and Roach (Rutilus rutilus)
Aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of diazinon toxicity (LC50) on silver carp and roach fry for measuring resistnce of these fishes. Roach with an average weight of 7 ± 1 g and silver carp 30 ± 1 g were studied to measuring lethal concentration LC50 at 96 hours. Experiment was used with a completely randomized design in 9 treatments and 3 replications for both silver carp and roach. ...
full textSexual ornamentation, androgens and papillomatosis in male roach (Rutilus rutilus)
According to the immunocompetence handicap hypothesis, males with attractive sexual ornamentation are more handicapped than their less ornamented rivals because of the immunosuppressive androgens required for the production of secondary sexual characters. Here we studied the predictions of the hypothesis in a wild cyprinid fish, the roach (Rutilus rutilus). We assayed (1) sexual ornamentation (...
full textEffect of CuSo4 sub-lethal concentration on some hematological indices of Rainbow Trout Oncorhynchus mykiss
The present study was designed to investigate the effects of 0.0125, 0.035, 0.075 and 0.15 ppm sub-lethal concentration of copper on hematological parameters (Hb, HCT, RBC, WBC, MCV, MCH, MCHC, lymphocyte, monocyte, neutrophil and eosinophil count) of the Oncorhynchus mykiss. Samples weighted 18±3 gr and exposure to CuSo44 for a week. Physicochemical properties of water were 14±2 Cº temperature...
full textAssociation between environmental stress and epidermal papillomatosis of roach Rutilus rutilus.
We studied the association between environmental stress and epidermal papillomatosis of roach Rutilus rutilus L. in Finnish waters using a 'matched pairs' design. Populations impacted by industrial and/or sewage effluents were compared to reference populations from pristine sites. We examined both the prevalence (proportion of diseased fish) and intensity (number of scales covered by tumors) of...
